Stingray Rescue! CMF Transports Stingrays for Associacion Ondine

On Friday 9th May Complete Marine Freight received an SOS call from Brad Robertson of Asociacion Ondine to move 8 Sting Rays from their holding tanks in Andratx to the Palma Aquarium.

The sting rays had been kept after Ondine had carried out a tagging operation of 135 Sting rays in the Bay of Palma 2 weeks ago. They have been kept under observation to make sure their tags did not get infected and to also check any behaviour changes due to their new accessory.

Sting rays have a cartilage hoop over their breathing holes or gills where the tags were placed. A recent survey dive in the same area where the sting rays were re released showed approximately 40/50 non tagged Rays to ones with tags which indicates a healthy overall population in the marine park. A good sign of the hard work Ondine is doing to protect our local sea. The Sting rays were picked up at 1600 on Friday and moved to Palma Aquarium in a special transport tank in the back of the Complete Marine Freight van. By the time the Rays were in their new home at Palma Aquarium the sun had firmly set and the mission to transport the beautiful creatures had come to a close.
