AkzoNobel’s Premium Interlux® and Awlgrip®

micron

Experts from AkzoNobel will be on deck at the inaugural International Refit Exhibition & Conference, January 28-29 (Booth 103 at the Broward County Convention Center, Fort Lauderdale) to assist attendees in the selection of products for refit projects from the company’s industry-leading Interlux® and Awlgrip® product ranges.

Interlux Micron® 99

Developed especially to meet the high-performance demands of the yacht market and to be applied only by professional paint applicators on boats over 82 feet, Micron 99 is a premium SPC-type antifouling with ultimate multi-season performance in salt, brackish and fresh waters. The high-solid, low V.O.C. formula helps boatyards meet local air-quality regulations, while reducing labor costs.

Micron 99 incorporates patented SPC (Self Polishing Copolymer) Biolux® technology for continuous polishing to help minimize drag, maximize speed and increase fuel efficiency. It delivers outstanding, long-lasting protection (including up to 12 months out-of-the-water exposure time) in the harshest conditions, proven on power and sailing yachts.

Available in black and blue, Micron 99 is compatible with fiberglass, wood, steel, iron, lead and properly primed aluminum.

Interlux® InterProtect® 2000E blister prevention system

InterProtect 2000E with Microplates® is a unique two-part epoxy coating developed to protect fiberglass hulls from water absorption, which can lead to osmotic blistering.

Microplates create an overlapping barrier to help stop water migration through the coating. The InterProtect system is the system of choice for repairing gelcoat that has already been damaged by osmotic blistering.

InterProtect has proven itself to be a universal primer. Below the waterline it can be used for corrosion protection on all underwater metals for hulls, keels, trim tabs and running gear as well as for blister protection and as part of the Ultimate No Sand System for new fiberglass boats. Above the waterline InterProtect is used on fiberglass and all metals. Available in two colors – gray and white - so colors can be alternated to ensure full coverage. A lower emissions formulation, InterProtect 2000VOC, is also available.

Interlux® InterProtect® HS

Interlux InterProtect HS is a cost-effective, two part epoxy that can be used above and below the waterline as a primer for all substrates. The high solids formula requires fewer coats to reach the desired dry film thickness. An underwater barrier system applied either by roller/brush or airless spray can be achieved in just 7 mils dry film thickness (DFT).

Interlux InterProtect HS uses Micro-Plate® technology, which substantially reduces water migration through the epoxy to the hull surface and provides protection from corrosion for all metals. It can also be used as part of a gelcoat blister repair or prevention system and as an alternative no-sand primer on new, or never-been-painted fiberglass boats.

Interlux InterProtect HS meets the most restrictive V.O.C. regulations and helps reduce solvent emissions into the environment.

Awlgrip® Awlwood Exterior Clear System

Containing a unique patented resin technology, Awlgrip Awlwood offers outstanding performance and retains the same gloss, DOI and natural appearance as when first applied. The cost-effective above the waterline solution is now also available in Satin Matt.

The primer incorporates Flex-Link™ technology to lock directly onto the wood structure, even on tropical hardwoods. This results in superior flexibility and provides the perfect base for the finish. The superior system lasts up to four times longer compared to traditional varnishes.

Other key benefits include:

• Reduced work-cycle time – high building, fast-curing formulation allows multiple applications per day.

• Excellent application properties – applicable over a wide temperature and humidity range using a variety of methods.

• Outstanding performance – remains highly flexible throughout its lifetime allowing natural substrate movement while giving excellent toughness and abrasion resistance.

• True system performance – primer and finish give a synergistic effect resulting in extended performance and durability.

Awlcraft® 2000 VOC

Awlcraft 2000 is a two component, fast drying acrylic urethane coating with long lasting gloss and color retention that is formulated to yield a great finish and still comply with the strictest U.S. VOC regulations. Now applicable in just two coats, Awlcraft 2000 VOC incorporates the same proven high performance resin technology of Awlcraft 2000, meaning that as well as reducing emissions and working time, Awlcraft 2000 VOC remains easy to apply, repairable and buffable.

• Low VOC – 420g/lt VOC ensuring compliance with all current US regulations.
• Cost effective – finish achieved in only 2 coats.
• Fast drying – reducing overall working time and minimizing dust pick up.
• Outstanding performance – long lasting gloss & color retention.
• Simple system – easy to apply, buffable and repairable finish.
