ICOMIA Calls for Sponsors for SE Asia Project

The International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) has issued a ‘Call For Sponsors’ for its South East Asia Project - an initiative to identify and understand obstacles to growth in South East Asia; interact with national and local authorities and create recommendations on how to develop a friendly leisure boating environment in the region.

BACKGROUND

ICOMIA membership extends to China, India, Singapore, Japan and Korea; however there has been little contact with the remainder of South East Asia. To remedy this, ICOMIA and its member Singapore Boating Industry Association held a meeting at the Singapore Yacht Show in April 2015 to discuss future Asian markets. During the meeting, which was attended by 28 industry leaders from all sectors of the industry in the region, it was decided ICOMIA should move ahead to help the industry in Asia more proactively.

Subject to creation of an efficient funding mechanism, research will be undertaken with the aim of identifying and understanding obstacles to growth. The research will be divided into four phases:

Phase 1 – Brunei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand
Phase 2 – Sri Lanka and Taiwan
Phase 3 – Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines and Vietnam
Phase 4 – China, India and South Korea

BECOME A FOUNDING PHASE ONE SPONSOR

ICOMIA is now seeking sponsors for Phase One of the Project. Founding sponsors not only receive this invaluable research for free but will have the opportunity to comment in advance on deliverables in order to obtain added value for their market sector – tailoring the research to benefit their current and future business activities.

Without being exhaustive, the Phase One Report will detail, where possible, the following information for each Phase One country: Reviews of Government attitudes and regulations; Market reports on boating infrastructure and manufacture; Importer and dealer capabilities; Marinas, boating clubs and mooring facilities; Industry SWOT analysis; National statistics; Trade Pacific Partnership and Asian Economic Community Status Reports; Considerations on foreign/direct investment opportunities and the development of an Asian contact network - But most importantly, the Report will provide insights and recommendations - not just statistics.
