COVID-19 and Crew: The Impact

The coronavirus crisis is affecting people from all walks of life, but what happens if your office is a superyacht? In the first in a series of webinars focused around the issues that crew are facing during the pandemic, chief officer and co-founder of She of the Sea Jenny Matthews brought together a panel of experts to share some insights and develop a snapshot of what is currently happening in the industry.

A recent poll conducted by Jenny found that 87% of the crew that answered said they had been impacted by the crisis. As such, during the webinar the panel specifically discussed the job market, what is actually happening on the vessels, travel restrictions and crew logistical information.

Jenny was joined by Tim Clarke, director of yacht crew recruitment agency Quay Crew; customer liaisons officer and operations manager of Evolution Yachting Kerry Allerton; Carol Benbrook, captain of MY S; and Northrop & Johnson broker David Seal, who all also delved into the tough decisions captains and owners might have to make during this time and legal certifications, as well as how the owners are reacting and what we might expect as we move forward.
