MYS: The Show for Future Superyacht Owners

MYS 2018 2

A month after the Monaco Yacht Show official attendance figures confirm the hopes of the strategy for this year's edition.

Despite a 2% drop in overall attendance compared to 2017, due largely to stricter entry requirements, exhibitors and brokers report a greater number of visitors really intending to buy or charter a yacht, with the prospect of confirmed orders in the weeks and months ahead.

Commenting on the sucess of this year's Show, Gaëlle Tallarida, General Manager of MYS said, “We work hand in hand with our exhibitors to offer the most prestigious superyachting event to the new generation of customers. We have a dual aim: offer our visitors an entertaining and instructive plunge into the world of superyachting while serving the industry. An order for a new yacht project benefits all the sectors of activity represented in the Show. Our responsibility is to encourage encounters between final clients and the best players in the market, whatever the profile of the visitors or exhibitors may be.”

Spread across Port Hercules and with a greater variety of exhibits this year, an improved layout of thematic zones also made the Show easeir to navigate with fewer bottlenecks along the docks.

A lot of thought also went into initiatives such as the VIP visitor program, the Sapphire Experience and the Monaco Yacht Summit, designed to tempt potential buyers and charterers into the world of superyachting. Over 150 VIP visitors, mostly American and Eastern European, were given personal introductions to brokers and builders to arrange private viewings.

Another highlight was the exclusive Monaco Yacht Summit which brought together 35 participants and a panel of experts to discuss issues around superyacht ownership, the aim being to inform and educate the next generation set to shape the future of the industry.

And no superyacht show is complete without awards. The inaugural Gala of the Monaco Yacht Show, attended by 350 VIP guests, was the stage for this year's MYS Superyacht Awards which recognized three outstanding yachts: DAR built by Dutch shipyard Oceanco (best exterior design and finest new superyacht in 2018), Illusion Plus from the Asian shipyard Pride Mega Yachts (best interior design), and Solo built by the Turkish shipyard Tankoa Yachts (MYS/RINA award for the most eco-friendly yacht in the Show).

By all accounts MYS 2018 will be remembered as one of the best editions in recent years. Whether through stricter entry criteria, an improved layout, VIP initiatives or overseas PR, the Monaco Yacht Show is committed to remaining a major and proactive player in the development of the superyacht industry.
