Superyacht Favourite Maldives Wins ‘Best Island in Asia’ Award 2022

Maldives resorts and marinas welcomed international yachts through most of the pandemic, offering a safe experience to those ready to explore and relax in this one-of-a-kind Southeast Asia destination.

And now, this extraordinary destination has won ‘Best Island in Asia’ at the Travel + Leisure Asia’s Best Awards 2022 which was launched in March this year to highlight the excellent travel and hospitality options across Southeast Asia.

The InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort was awarded Best Hotel in the Maldives with the resort’s AVI Spa claiming the second spot for Best Spa in the Maldives.

It’s no surprise that the Maldives is such a popular yachting destination with its lush private islands, turquoise lagoons, abundant spas and fine dining options. A charter in the Maldives offers unforgettable experiences year-round, from night-diving with hammerhead sharks to dining in an underwater restaurant made entirely of glass.

“The Maldives is also a convenient stopover for yachts bound for either the Red Sea or en route via the Cape of Good Hope,” said Mohamed Hameed, head of Asia Pacific Superyachts Maldives. “And since April 2020, fees to enter the Maldives have been substantially lower, making the Maldives a viable stopover for all yachts crossing the Indian Ocean.”

It’s hard to believe that this iconic destination began life as a one-resort destination. The Maldives now has nearly 200 resorts across 26 natural atolls, around 10 of which opened in 2021. A further 12 are scheduled to open throughout 2022, giving a stunning array of choice for visiting yachts and luxury travellers.

Throughout 2022 the Maldives will be celebrating 50 years of tourism since this spellbinding island-nation began attracting visitors.
