Last week, three British Marine members were honoured to receive prestigious Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. The Awards are decided and awarded by Her Majesty the Queen, making them the most coveted accolades in UK business.

British Marine members, Lumishore and Dryad Maritime, both won Awards within the innovation category, whilst British Marine member Spinlock was presented the accolade in the international trade category.

Lumishore

This is the third year running that Lumishore has received a Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. However, the previous two accolades were won in the international trade category.

A leading manufacturer of high performance Underwater LED Lighting Systems, this Award reflects the company’s unique and valued innovation, driven by its expert staff producing outstanding underwater lighting effects for the leisure marine sector.

As Eifrion Evans, CEO at Lumishore, remarked: “We are extremely proud that the Queen’s Award for Enterprise recognises Lumishore for its innovation. The Award endorses our industry leadership and is a recognition for Lumishore’s world-class design, development and manufacturing staff, who produce the best and most breath-taking underwater lighting effects for prestigious yachts and boats of all sizes all over the world. An on-going commitment to innovation and future product development are core to Lumishore’s DNA, which, when combined with investment in our people, equipment, and premises, and our passion for customer focus will lead to our continued future growth and success.”

Dryad Maritime

Following on from its recent landmark acceptance as the first maritime operations company to be granted membership of the UK’s Chamber of Shipping, Dryad Maritime received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of its work developing intelligence-led systems that improve the safety of seafarers.

As Graeme Gibbon Brooks, Managing Director at Dryad Maritime, commented: “This Award is testament to the hard work, dedication and fortitude of the Dryad Maritime team who have given their whole-hearted commitment to supporting the company’s growth ambitions over the last five years, whilst continuing to deliver unrivalled service and support to our existing and new clients. Our team continue to deliver and delight in equal measure with a level of service that is at the heart of our continued growth and reputation in the maritime industry. Given the tempo and scale of our growth, it should also serve as an encouragement to other entrepreneurs and UK start-ups who strive to achieve commercial success in as short amount of time as possible. It seems like only yesterday that we embarked on this journey with an idea, a small loan and just two colleagues.”

Spinlock

Formed in 1968, the company received praise from the judges on its substantial growth and continued commercial success overseas over the past six years. With a workforce of just 50 employees, Spinlock has grown to become one of the world’s leading lifejacket and rope holding technology brands.

As Chris Hill, CEO of Spinlock, noted: “We're delighted to win this Queen's Award for Enterprise. We have won many awards over the years for innovation but this award recognises our ability to turn successfully designed products into a commercial success on a global scale.”

Spinlock’s success lies with its employees, as Chris reiterates: “We have three million components come through our doors each year and they go back out as 300,000 high quality products. The Spinlock team deserves this award as recognition for all their hard work and dedication.”
