Van der Valk Unveils New Continental Five Range

Van der Valk Shipyard in the Netherlands has revealed an impressive concept for a new 38-metre explorer yacht. The Continental Five range has been developed in partnership with Guido de Groot in a variety of exterior designs, ranging from futuristic to classic.

Despite the wide range of choices available in terms of her exterior profile lines, the overall design of the Continental Five has a distinctly masculine character. Sporting a round-bilge hull, owners can opt for a full displacement version with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure or an all-aluminium fast-displacement vessel.

Rich experience

Leveraging on Van der Valk Shipyards’ rich experience in explorer-type vessels, the Continental Five will offer a premium performance in even the toughest weather conditions. It is specifically designed with a significant fuel capacity, and will be easily capable of transatlantic passages. A powerful propulsion package includes twin CAT C18 ACERT diesel engines.

The triple-deck configuration offers serious interior and exterior space, and provides many different layout possibilities. The interior will be characterised by an extraordinary level of comfort and finishing.

Design by Guido de Groot

The Continental Five is a fine example of the excellent partnership between Van der Valk Continental Yachts and yacht designer Guido de Groot. “We work both directly for shipyards and private clients,” explains De Groot. “Van der Valk has been around for more than half a century and it has been a pleasure to work with them over the past three years as they have increased their presence in the superyacht sector.

“The yard is easy to communicate with and highly professional. We have designed a number of completely new models and three yachts have already been successfully delivered. The Continental Five is the largest design to be unveiled to date and we are especially proud of the flexible layout possibilities of this 38-metre yacht.”

Deck by deck

Moving through the decks of the Continental Five it is clear that everything has been carefully thought through based on the yard’s rich experience and the design skills of Guido de Groot. The standard arrangement sun deck includes a good-sized wet bar, large L-shaped settee and a spacious sunbed. The bridge deck houses a large outside lounge deck, a pilothouse, the captain’s office, a sky lounge with pantry and kitchenette, and a social area on the aft deck which is ideal as an alfresco lounge or dining space.

The main deck aft accommodates the toys and tender or a helipad or swimming pool. The spacious main saloon has floor-to-ceiling doors to starboard and port that allow broad views all around. The forward location of the master suite also affords some stunning vistas.

Finally, the lower deck aft houses a beach club with sauna, a hydraulically operated swimming platform, a day head and a shower. The lower deck accommodations include one VIP suite, three guest cabins, and a crew area with a spacious crew mess and laundry, two crew cabins with twin berths and a double captain’s cabin.
