AMEL Sailing the Seven Seas

amel 1 DR 140

From the delivery of a yacht to the launch of a race on the other side of the world, AMEL knows a thing or two about thrilling sensations. While the shipyard in La Rochelle is delivering its latest model, the luxurious AMEL 64, on the other side of the globe an American owner is taking part in the Bermuda Race aboard his AMEL 55. Designed for navigating without a crew, the yachts from the La Rochelle boatyard have made a name for themselves on seas around the world.

Launch of the latest AMEL 64

Last week AMEL delivered the 20th sailboat in its 64 foot range, “Orsa”, the 2830th boat to be delivered since the beginnings of AMEL Shipyards in 1964! After months of dialogue with the client, the final quality checks were carried out in the shipyard's test centre, before the yacht was towed to the La Rochelle port to be launched, masted and rigged. The AMEL team then completes the final adjustments and gives the yacht a final grooming.

Over seven days, an AMEL member of staff accompanies the owners step by step in the handover process for their new sailboat. Training is comprehensive, specific and intensive. They will learn all they need to know about their yacht and how to manoeuvre it safely. Essential training for future stress-free navigation.

The French Antilles and international commercial development

Besides its base in Hyères, established 10 years ago, AMEL has been present in the French Antilles for more than 40 years. The “Amel Caraïbes” branch has been offering its services in Guadeloupe since 1972. In 2010 the branch developed its customer service and moved to the Marin pleasure port in Martinique, managed by Jean Collin and devoted to AMEL yacht owners.

To represent the shipyard and promote its modern, elegant 55 and 64 metre sailboats, AMEL has reinforced its network of international agents. A new partnership has recently been established with Northrop and Johnson Asia, leading to the first ever presentation of an AMEL 64 at the Singapore Yacht Show.

Amel at international boat shows

AMEL's presence at leading international boat shows, including Dusseldorf, Singapore, Palma, Cannes and Genoa, gives our team the opportunity to develop privileged contacts with current owners and potential clients. The brand will also be taking part in the Sydney Yacht Show in Australia, from the 28th July to 2nd August this year.

Newport Bermuda Race 17 June: An Amel 55 at the starting line

As preparations continue, excitement is at its peak. Aldo and his racing crew are officially registered to take part in the Newport Bermuda Race with 'Araucaria', an Amel 55 ketch delivered by the shipyard in April last year, and all set to start the race on 17 June in the cruise category. Together with the owner there will be eight crew, including Pierrick Cruzol, a young developer at AMEL's R&D department and a distinguished navigator.

AMEL's priority has always been to serve sailors seeking escape and freedom and the brand has captivated an international audience. Today the La Rochelle shipyard has made its mark as a benchmark in the luxury yacht industry. With French savoir-faire and elegant craftsmanship using top quality materials, AMEL continue in the quest for perfection and exceptional standards for owners.
