It’s only a couple of days until IMS Shipyard and ACREW unite forces to host a variety of educational workshops for captains and crew in Toulon. The event that takes place on the 9th and 10th December includes ACREW’s signature blend of professional development workshops, networking lunches, complementary drinks and a Christmas themed crew BBQ and drinks.

So what can you expect?

Captains & HOD’s

ACREW and its partners have selectively arranged a list of topics for captains who attend. The event kicks-off on Wednesday  9th at 10am with a workshop focusing on the Migrant issue in the Mediterranean.

Wayne Britton from Securewest International, a well-established company providing global security and risk management services since 1987, and Captain Rod Hatch, who has been in yachting since 1969 and has a wealth of experience under his sail, will be leading the discussion for captains and crew. The aim of this workshop is to discuss how we are considering practical preparations and actions in the event of an encounter with a migrant vessel at sea. This is not only aimed at saving lives but also to protect your crew and yacht.

Furthermore, captains are also welcome to join the popular workshops of Alison Rentoul from The Crew Coach. Alison will host her first workshop on Wednesday at 15:30 and will endeavour to answers the question of how to manage millennials. The questions frequently asked are; what motivates this generation, how do you get good longevity from them and how to retain their loyalty and interest?

Continuously, Alison will then host a second workshop on the 10th December at 10am for captains and HOD’s, which is all about personality profiling and how its used to strategically assemble onboard teams.

Stews and Chefs
During the event next week, stews and chefs have the opportunity to attend two workshops specifically designed to enrich their skills, hospitality acumen and operational procedures.

Peter Vogel from Interior Yacht Services is on-hand to offer a workshop on how to impress owners and guests with incredible dining experiences. Peter will be discussing all the important trends you will need to know for 2016. This On-Trend Dining 2016 workshop starts at 15:30 on Wednesday 9th December.

Chief Stews are then invited to attend Peter’s second workshop the following day, 10th December, at 10am. This is all about structuring your interior department. It will share light on how a structured approach of running an interior crew can save time, money and improve the on-board experience for all.

Deck Crew

Back due to popular demand, are the Ropes and Rigging workshops. Gavin Hall and his team from Gremco will be facilitating two workshops for all deck crew at IMS Shipyard.

The first workshop is on Wednesday 9th at 13:30, which includes practical demonstrations and a full overview of the different types of lines and ropes on the market. They will also examine the different materials with you and discuss the important aspects of strength, abrasions resistance, ease of use and of course, quality to price ratio.

All Crew in IMS Shipyard are therefore invited to the Superyacht Crew Happy Hour on Wednesday the 9th for complimentary drinks. This happy hour is made possible due to support from YachtWrap and Corkers Fine Wines. Hugo Whysall from YachtWrap is also at the event to answer any questions on vinyl wrapping for the interior or exterior of your yacht.

The Christmas Crew Drinks! This kicks-off on the last day for all attendees with everyone invited to dress up and finish the event in fashion. There will be cold beers, mulled wine, classic Christmas songs and maybe even some mistletoe hanging around. Last but not least, for those wearing a santa hat a special surprise is on reward for their seasonal spirit.
