Vela Clasica Mallorca 2015

club de mar

The XXI Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta, organised by Club de Mar-Mallorca, will gather for the first time in Mallorca the FI15 class survivors. Hispania (1909), Tuiga (1909), Mariska (1908) and The Lady Anne (1912) will face each other in a historic encounter from August 12th to 15th.

The upcoming Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta promises a historic edition that will gather some of the greatest jewels in the Mediterranean nautical patrimony. The great novelty this year will be the duel between the FI15 class survivors, competing in an exclusive category and reenacting the big vessels regattas from the early XX century. Hispania (1909), Tuiga (1909), Mariska (1908) and The Lady Anne (1912) will take part in a duel that was already seen two years ago in the Copa del Rey - Vintage Boats Panerai Trophy in Mahon, but still unwitnessed in Mallorca. This encounter represents one of the biggest milestones a classic boats competition like this can aspire to.

The XXI Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta will be celebrated from August 12th to 15th 2015, both days included, in the waters of the Bay of Palma (Mallorca). The competition is organised by Club de Mar-Mallorca, in collaboration with Real Federación Española de Vela, Real Asociación Nacional de Cruceros, the Balearic Islands Government and the City Hall of Palma. The race takes part in the Spanish Vintage and Classic Boats Competition and the VI Mare Nostrum Classics Trophy.

Last year, the Illes Balears Clàssics registered a participation of 50 vessels, a record number, which the organisation intends to increase this year. In order to do this, Club de Mar-Mallorca has opted for a call system that establishes the following competing categories: Vintage Class, Classics, Spirit of Tradition, FI15, Big Boats and Dragon. Those vessels that are part of the Balearic maritime and sportive tradition will be represented in the Latin Sail class.

Like in previous years, Club de Mar-Mallorca will celebrate an open doors day in the Port of Palma so everyone can admire these historic vessels.
