‘It’s tough at the top’ – Interactive leadership debate

Where: C&C Lounge, Club de l'Aviron, Société Nautique, Quai Louis II (next to the new Monaco Yacht Club)

Who’s it for?: All yacht crew looking to improve their leadership skills

Paul Bennett, an expert in leadership, will be leading this interactive discussion. Paul boasts 7 years at Henley Management College, was a BT Global Challenge Round the World Yacht Race Skipper and a Royal Navy Engineer. He brings his leadership lessons from around the globe and will be sharing some of his insights and stories. During a recent crew turnover survey 64% of junior crew stated that they left a yacht as a direct result of the leadership they experienced on board.

Aimed to stimulate and inspire, the discussion will look at what Captains and Senior Crew need to be doing more of, to better lead crew / improve on board leadership, and how to make this non-compulsory, but very much needed development more “normal”/ acceptable in the industry.

Participants include Alison Rentoul The Crew Coach (Performance Engineering for yacht crew), Karen Passman from Impact Crew (On board team and leadership development), Peter Vogel from Interior Yacht Services (a renowned former Interior Manager for some of the industry's most impressive yachts), Simon Harvey of N2 People Skills (Superyacht Crew Development) and a selection of esteemed captains with many years of combined yachting and leadership experience, including Captain Steve Thomas and Captain Adrian Croft (both PYA Council members).

PYA Table setting and Mixology competition

Where: Judging - onboard your yacht during the show. Results - C&C Lounge, Club de l'Aviron, Société Nautique, Quai Louis II (next to the new Monaco Yacht Club)

Who’s it for?: Interior crew whose boats are taking part in the show.

This year, the PYA GUEST© table setting competition will incorporate a NEW element of an ‘arrival cocktail’.

The objective of the competition is for crew to demonstrate their skills and techniques in accordance with the theme (Mediterranean Twist), and to highlight their creativity in producing an original table presentation and cocktail.

The crew will be faced with the challenge of artistically decorating an interior or exterior table onboard using the yacht’s own linen, tableware, glassware and decorations.

The addition of the ‘arrival cocktail’ supported by World Class and Diageo Reserve is an exciting bonus for this year's competition. The cocktail element will encourage crew to be original and innovative, not only in their craft and mixology but in their overall thinking of the theme and presentation.

This is a PYA GUEST© initiative to promote continuous professional development and standardization of training for interior crew within the yachting sector.
