Six robbers in a blue-hulled fishing boat, approached and attempted to board an anchored Container ship using a hook attached to a long pole. One of the robbers pointed a firearm towards the duty watchman, who escaped and raised the alarm. All the crew mustered in the citadel. The Master contacted the CSO, local agents and MTISC-GoG for assistance. Upon hearing the alarm, the robbers aborted the attempted boarding and escaped. Port control made contact, but no response was received. The Authorities sent a patrol boat to check the surrounding waters.

Allmode Comment:
This is the furthest north that a piracy incident has occurred in West Africa this year. The fact that they were equipped for the job and armed is concerning and goes to highlight the need for all vessels to maintain a good level of security when visiting any port in West Africa.
