In late June 2016, US News & World Report announced the world’s top travel destination of 2016-2017 as the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

Home to the largest coral reef system in the world, this impressive ecosystem is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World.

According to US News Travel Editor, Erin Shields, the Great Barrier Reef made the top of the list because, “It's a once in a lifetime vacation." The Great Barrier Reef is home to more than 3,000 coral reefs and 600 islands. Spanning more than 344,400 square kilometers, there is so much beauty to enjoy."

The ultimate way to explore the Great Barrier Reef is on a private charter yacht, which is becoming ever more popular as people seek out novel destinations and experiences. As well as providing guests with the holiday of a lifetime, reef visitors also gain a better understanding of how we can help sustain the environment and protect the ecosystem for future generations.

The US News reviewed over 250 destinations when compiling its list of 'Best Places to Visit in 2016-2017' and took note of traveler opinions as well as expert analysis.
