    Yachting Partners International (YPI) has confirmed that its parent company, shipbroking house Barry Rogliano Salles (BRS), has purchased all of YPI’s remaining shares to become outright owner of the luxury yachting group. BRS named Philippe Hetland as YPI's new CEO.

    Frenchman Francois Gabart became the youngest sailor to win the Vendee Globe, a solo round-the-world race, when he reached the finish in record time on Sunday. The 29-year-old Gabart needed 78 days, two hours, 16 minutes and 40 seconds to complete his journey, smashing the previous record set by compatriot Michel Desjoyeaux in 2009 by almost seven days.

It appears, however, that the world’s elite ultra high net worths didn’t get the memo, and if you want evidence you only have to look at the just-published list of the world’s 100 Largest Yachts. There are some familiar names on the list of owners, including Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich whose 162.5m (533.15 feet) yacht Eclipse still clings to the top spot as world’s largest private yacht.

    Norway´s Askeladden Boats AS has merged with the local boat dealer Båtens Beste AS. The merged company will operate under the name Askeladden Boats AS. Båtens Beste is located in Hagavik, south of Bergen on the west coast. “The reason for the merger is that we want to adjust our business for the time being and for times to come and also use the many resources we have in common,” Askeladdden´s Henrik Askvik told online daily midtsiden.no.

Previous positions include international sales manager at Bertram Yacht in Miami (US), general manager for Europe, Africa and Middle East for Riviera, and director of sales and marketing for Numarine.
  • BRP Seeks $1.05bn loan

    Bombardier Recreational Products Inc., the maker of jet skis and outboard motors, is seeking a $1.05 billion term loan to fund a dividend and refinance debt. The debt will pay interest at 4 percentage points more than the London interbank offered rate, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. Libor, a rate banks say they can borrow in dollars from each other, will have a 1.25 percent floor.

    Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has just taken delivery of a new luxury yacht. At the moment, very little is known about the yacht – who built it, how much it cost or even just how big it is. However, judging by pictures available on several Nigerian websites, the yacht looks significantly smaller than those owned by Dangote’s billionaire peers Roman Abramovich, Paul Allen or Andrey Melnichenko, making the Nigerian billionaire’s latest acquisition seem almost like a baby’s toy.
