If ever a place ever threw up conditions more perfect for J boat racing over four consecutive days then I’d love to know. Between the smart organization of the race committee, the flat water and breeze that ranged from 14- 19 knots one day, and 12- 15 another, it couldn't have been better. It was as if the J class had ordered the breeze and sea conditions that they wanted by phone and, like a great pizza delivery boy, Palma Bay delivered on time and with all the extras.

This is the 17th year of the Superyacht Cup in Palma, with 19 confirmed entries, including five sublime J Class yachts, and still the possibility of one or two more. On the back of the Caribbean superyacht regatta season, and the 21 yachts that showed up to the Loro Piana superyacht regatta in Sardinia, one could say that large sailing competition is in rude health.

Now with Hanuman heading to Palma, there are five J class yacht set to sail in the Superyacht Cup from 19 to 22 June. When four of the J class yachts elected The Superyacht Cup Palma as their first European regatta of the 2013 season, Hanuman was scheduled to sail from the Caribbean to the Pacific, but following on from her spectacular performance in St Barth's at they have decided to head back across the Atlantic and on to the Mediterranean. This will be the first time 5 of these historic yachts have raced together in Europe ever.

The annual race marking the opening of the Mediterranean circuit for classic yachts and metric classes will be held 29 May through 2 June in the waters off Antibes. For most participants, this prestigious meeting, represents the first major event of the year. When spring season arrives, Yachts return to their ports in the Mediterranean waters.

As new owners of the Newport Charter Yacht Show, the Newport Harbor Corporation wants to give back to the marine community and has announced its official charitable partner of 2012 as humanitarian organization YachtAid Global© (YAG). The Newport show, now in its 30th year, is the only one of its kind in the U.S. and will be held June 18-21 at the Newport Yachting Center in historic downtown Newport, R.I. The four-day event will host industry professionals and consumers (attending with brokers) and showcase world-class charter yachts – ranging from 50 to 200 feet – as well as ancillary boating goods, services and educational information.

Two years into the planning of a new, stronger incarnation of the Palma Boat Show looks set to pay off. Cancelled in its 29th year in 2012, the 2013 and 30th anniversary year is expected to be a livelier, more compact affair, better showcasing Palma’s refit and marina facilities. It will also no longer be a ‘small boat’ show.

The Antibes Yacht Show is now almost upon us, beginning Thursday, the 18th of April, and continuing through Sunday, the 21st of April. The show will be packed with forums and events, including a day-long seminar hosted by the ISS on Friday and a first-ever live auction of yachts at 15h00 on Saturday.
