Tom Mukamal on IGY's Vision for the Caribbean Charter Yacht Show

With the recent announcement that IGY Marinas and the International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA) will be hosting the inaugural Caribbean Charter Yacht Show in December this year, Yachting International Radio host Rhea Rouw speaks to IGY Marinas CEO Tom Mukamal to discuss a reset of the model for boat shows in the Caribbean.

Taking place from 9-12 December 2021 at Yacht Haven Grande, the Caribbean Charter Yacht Show was born in response to the industry-wide call for a new formula that better serves the needs of participants and stakeholders.

“We took a big step back and looked at the commercial model around a yacht show and found, in my opinion, that they haven’t been geared around what the core purpose and value proposition of these trade shows should be,” he tells Rhea. “We wanted to produce an event that’s really made for the participants and their needs rather than just another profitable venture.”

In a lively and frank discussion, Tom and Rhea address:

  • Why now?
With yacht charters and boat sales on the rise, 2021 is the ideal time to introduce new owners and boats to the region.

  • What’s different?
“It’s all about take-home value – what did I learn here that I didn’t know before I came?” explains Tom. Whether it’s for brokers to understand exactly what’s available for charter or for guests to discover new experience and places to go, the Caribbean Charter Yacht Show is all about value for money and value for time.

  • ROI for investors
Practical measures to assure ROI for participants, including competitive rates and no mandatory minimum stay in the marina.

  • Health and safety
Full alignment with government advice with on-site Covid testing.

  • Access and travel
Practical solutions to make it easier for participants to access the show including advice and assistance with visas.
