Wyndham Harbour Marina on Port Phillip Bay has opened its 24/7 fuel dock, a significant addition to the newest boating destination in the region and one that is unanimously welcomed by boaties, commercial vessels and Coast Guard services.

Wyndham Harbour Marina is centrally located on Port Phillip Bay and offers excellent access to the region’s cruising and fishing grounds. Situated just 16nm from Docklands in the City, a 35-minute run to St Kilda, 9nm to Portarlington and wineries on the Bellarine Peninsula, or 13nm to Sandringham Yacht Club, 20nm to Geelong and right across the Bay from Blairgowrie, Sorrento, Portsea and the Mornington Peninsula, just a 22nm jaunt.

“Wyndham Harbour is a good stop off point or a great place to berth and explore the area,” explains Marina Manager, Darren Finkelstein.

“Within 10 minutes’ drive from the marina there’s Werribee Open Range Zoo, historic Werribee Mansion and Spa, Shadowfax Winery, golf courses, racecourses and much more. All of our eateries are now open: Ramae’s Café and Lounge, Sam’s Catch Fish N’ Chippery and Ohana Pizza all serving wonderful foods, beer, wine, gelati and fantastic coffee of course.

“All our food and beverage venues will deliver directly to boats within the marina or to your residence at Wyndham Harbour. Visiting boaties can enjoy a leisurely cruise to Wyndham Harbour from your home port for a bite to eat, refuel and then head home for a great day or weekend on the water.

“We have something for every palate, every boatie and every budget.”

The opening of the fuel dock marks an important point in the marina's development. “Boaties can now access reliable, competitively-priced fuel, 24/7, including high flow diesel and unleaded to suit all kinds of boats, using credit card or pre-paid card you can purchase from the Marina Office,” continues Darren.

“Our new fuel dock will service all vessels, from the Water Police to PWCs, sailing boats, commercial vessels, the charter and fishing fleets, dive boats and families enjoying a day out or weekend on the water.”

From a safety and convenience perspective, the Werribee Coast Guard is totally on-board with the new fuel facility at Wyndham Harbour Marina.

Bruce Lawrence, VF10 Flotilla Commander says having 24/7 fuel available is literally a life saver. “We are berthed at Wyndham Harbour in a berth kindly donated by the marina and we keep the rescue vessel their 80 percent of the time,” he says.

“There are between 600 and 1,000 boats on the Bay at any one time. The Coast Guard receives 50 to 60 call outs per year, from racing yachts having navigation issues, to tragic cases of missing people. It’s our duty to provide quick response time to call outs so we need to be able to refuel the boat’s 400L tank quickly.

“To date, that has been a painful operation, especially in an emergency,” Bruce continues. “We had to trailer the boat to a servo, which depending on traffic can take an hour or more, complete with ‘8m wide load’ sign and flashing lights. We can’t just go to any servo – we require high flow diesel and the trailer with the vessel is very high, with a large turning circle.
“That particular servo shuts at 11pm, so if we get called out at night, which happens frequently, we can be left in the lurch.

“Having 24/7 fuel at Wyndham Harbour Marina which we can be accessed in 5 minutes is a big bonus for everybody in the area. For the boating public, they are less likely to run out of fuel, so they’re less likely to be stuck in the middle of the Bay. For commercial vessels, it’s a convenient option around the clock, and for us, we can be confident of quicker response times in any emergency.”
