Dometic Presents Customised Solutions with Ship Wide Ventilation

HVAC specialist Dometic presents its Ship-Wide Ventilation product range, designed to improve safety, extend engine life, and optimise performance and efficiency for a range of boats.

The marine engine room ventilation systems and components, including mist eliminators, dampers, fans and actuators, reduce salt intrusion into machinery spaces as well as help reduce the risk of over-heating of engines which can shorten life, decrease performance and increase maintenance.

Announcing a range of new projects for 2015, Dometic’s dedicated team of ship-wide ventilation experts is focusing on delivering custom solutions for boat builders and owners, specialising in providing design, engineering support and consultation services.

Dometic Ship-Wide Ventilation engineer Nelson Frolund said: "This year we have been working on a huge range of applications for the ventilation products, including 40ft to 165ft production and custom yachts, large tugs, Coast Guard Cutters and several other commercial vessels. One thing in common with all these is our ability to analyse the vessel's specific requirements using our in-house tools, and then build a highly customised set of equipment. This means we can confidently meet the needs of just about any customer."

Suitable for yachts, superyachts, ferries, military vessels and a range of other commercial boats, the Dometic Ship-Wide Ventilation product line includes:

• Mist Eliminators. Mist-eliminating grills stop corrosive salt mist and water from entering the engine room. Each mist eliminator is custom designed for maximum air flow and minimum restriction for a given machinery package, taking into consideration air flow and dimensional restrictions. There are four mist-eliminator drainage options: bottom draining, face draining, horizontal and sump draining. These are available in corrosion-proof PVC or marine-grade powder coated aluminium, and they can be custom designed for any requirement.

• Axial Fans, DC Fans and Blowers. Commercial-grade axial fans and centrifugal blowers provide combustion air for marine machinery spaces, and cooling air for any space aboard ship. Materials are chosen with corrosion resistance and weight in mind. Blades are constructed of high-strength PPG glass-reinforced polyamide, with standard powder coating of the fan housing. Fan motors are high efficiency, direct drive and reversible. All hardware is either marine-grade aluminium or 316 stainless steel. Fan accessories such as grills, diverters, VFDs and adapters for mounting fans directly to Mist Eliminators are available.

• Smoke and Fire Dampers. Dampers are safety devices that close off a machinery space in the event of a fire. The lack of fresh air in conjunction with the release of fire retardant can snuff out a fire and save a vessel from possibly burning to the waterline. Dampers come in both marine-grade aluminium and Lloyds-approved and A60-rated stainless steel.

• Pressure and Temperature Monitoring Fan Controls. Controls are available for three-phase fans and blowers, as well as 24 VDC fans. They can be manual variable speed, or automatic temperature controlled, pressure controlled, or pressure and temperature controlled. DC controls are temperature based. All controls come standard with fire system shutdowns. Interface with central monitoring systems is optional.
