Join the Next Cogs4Cancer Bike Ride for Cancer Research!

JBonBIKE2

Plans are well underway for the next Cogs4Cancer endurance bike ride from Maastricht to Monaco in aid of cancer research.

I was invited to ride on the 2015 trip from Barcelona to Antibes and from that point on I have been keen to support the important work they do and, of course, to ride my bike.

I also took part in the ride from London to Antibes in 2017 when C4C passed the milestone of raising over 1 million Euros for Cancer Research UK and several local French cancer charities.

Together with our new president, Captain Ben Craig-Cameron, the C4C riders are ready to do it again! Billed as '8 countries in 8 days' this year the ride begins on 4 October in Maastricht and ends on Saturday 12 October at the IYC in Port Vauban, Antibes, followed by a massive party at the Bastion Saint Jaume.

C4C riders

The camaraderie is unbelievable, as is the sense of achievement. The ride itself is quite challenging but it’s great fun, and we’re looking for more riders to join us!

Until now the ride has been predominantly for people working in the superyacht industry, but cancer can affect us all so this year we’re opening up to all-comers.

To participate, we each raise a minimum of €5,000 from our principle sponsor. We pay our own expenses although in some cases our sponsors contribute to these costs too.

During the ride we are looked after by volunteer massage therapists and osteopaths, and we get fantastic support from bike mechanics and caterers who supply high energy bars, drinks and healthy meals to propel you up the hills.

There are still three months to the off so if you’re reasonably fit you can start training now. If you ride three to four times per week, between 20-50 km, the rest will fall into place. We also have seasoned riders and fitness trainers who can help you train and prepare.

It’s also great for weight loss – I’ve dropped 7.5 kg this year so I’m the lightest I’ve been since I was 35, which is 25 years ago!
