Rich Freeland at Cummins Approaches Retirement

Cummins Inc. has announced that Rich Freeland, President and COO, will retire after 40 years of service to the company.

Rich Freeland joined Cummins the day after graduating from Purdue University in 1979 as the second shift manager at the Parts Distribution Center in Columbus, Indiana. He spent the entire time of his 40-year career with Cummins. During this time, he successfully led three of Cummins' five business segments and since 2014 has been Chief Operating Officer responsible for global operations. Rich Freeland will also resign from all duties for the Board of Directors of the Company on October 15, 2019.

Tony Satterthwaite, current Distribution Business President, with approximately 16,000 employees worldwide, will succeed Rich Freeland as President and Chief Operating Officer of Cummins. Tony Satterthwaite joined Cummins in 1988 and has held leadership roles throughout Cummins' businesses and businesses.

Prior to his current position, Tony Satterthwaite led Cummins Power Generation from 2008 to 2015. Under his leadership, this business unit organized the full range of large stationary generator sets to meet the current Tier 4 standards of the US Environmental Protection Agency. The division received orders for major new military orders, increased its global footprint, and invested in new technologies.

In addition to his successful leadership of two global businesses, Tony Satterthwaite continued to work on resolving issues throughout his career to drive the business forward and increase customer satisfaction. Tony Satterthwaite has an excellent reputation for his understanding of the details of Cummins at all levels. He has spent considerable time working in Asia, Europe and the US, and during his long career took a close look at almost every Cummins location.

Tracy Embree will succeed Tony Satterthwaite as Distribution Business President. She led the Components Business for a five-year period, delivering record sales and profits for the business over this period. Under her leadership, product lines for product components have been expanded to include gearboxes. In addition, Cummins was able to further increase its market share around the world. Tracy Embree has held several leadership roles in a variety of business areas, including a number of key customer contact roles.

Jennifer Rumsey will succeed Tracy Embree as Components Business President. She has held various technical leadership positions since joining the company in 2000. She is currently the Chief Technical Officer of the company. Jennifer Rumsey has held roles in engineering, program management for new products, control, after treatment technology, advanced engineering and quality assurance. She was responsible for some of the most significant products and technologies the company has developed over the last 19 years.

Jim Fier will succeed Jennifer Rumsey as Chief Technical Officer. He has been with Cummins for over 30 years and is a highly trained manufacturing engineer. In the field of machine development Jim Fier is already recognized as one of the most technically skilled and experienced engineers in the industry. Jim Fier has proven his ability to build powerful teams and build trust and credibility with our clients and various industry partners.

As part of Cummins' successor plans, the following leadership appointments will come into effect on October 15.

• Tony Satterthwaite, Distribution President, succeeds Rich Freeland as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO).

• Tracy Embree, Components President, succeeds Tony Satterhwaite as Distribution Business President.

• Jennifer Rumsey, Chief Technical Officer, succeeds Tracy Embree as Components Business President.

• Jim Fier will succeed Jennifer Rumsey as Chief Technical Officer.
