METSTRADE Set for Largest Show to Date

METSTRADE 2016 begins on Tuesday 15 November at the RAI Amsterdam convention centre. Focusing this year on sustainability, the largest B2B marine equipment trade show will welcome a record number of 1,471 exhibitors and 22,000+ professional visitors from around the world. 

The Global Superyacht Forum, HISWA Symposium on Yacht Design and Construction and the Leisure Marine Sustainability Conference kick off the METSTRADE week on Monday 14 November.

METSTRADE itself starts on Tuesday, opening with a Breakfast Briefing with circular economy expert Steven Beckers, and the announcement of the DAME Design Award winner. 

Year-on-year Growth

A total of 1,471 exhibitors will exhibit throughout the RAI Amsterdam complex, compared to 1,385 stands last year. Strong year-on-year growth is also evident in the SuperYacht Pavilion (265 exhibitors compared to 224 in 2015), the Marina and Yard Pavilion (64 stands compared to 49 in 2015) and the Construction Material Pavilion (45 compared to 31 in 2015).

New: Construction in Process

The METSTRADE Show program also includes a range of new platforms to promote innovation. The Construction in Process Stage will feature live presentations of materials showcased in the Construction and Material Pavilion.

The French resin technology firm, Resoltech, will demonstrate a composite repair system allowing racing sailors to make repairs in all weather. The system was selected by the technical committee for the recent VOLVO Ocean Race with potential for use in broader applications. Another composite specialist, Gurit, will show how their SPRINT system facilitates consistent build weights with a controlled fibre/resin weight ratio. 

New: METSTRADE Theatre

The METSTRADE Theatre in Hall 12 offers further learning opportunities where exhibitors will be offering product demonstrations. An exciting new event is 'Pitch the Press' on Wednesday, where 15 companies pitch products selected by international marine journalists to press and visitors.

Innovation and sustainability

The InnovationLAB has moved to Hall 6, close to the entrance of the new Hall 7, forming a central hub for discussion and presentations by DAME Design Award and Boatbuilder Award winners and shortlisted nominees.

On Tuesday morning there will be a live interview with the renowned architect Steven Beckers, keynote speaker at the Breakfast Briefing. In the afternoon there wll be a panel discussion on ‘sustainability and the boatbuilding revolution’, examining how the circular economy is transforming industry models and how ‘going green’ in the marine industry can be good for business.

A further highlight is the Material Xperience, a touring exhibition with its Lightweight Miracles theme, reinforcing the prominent theme of sustainability at METSTRADE 2016.

Leading speakers

Further key speakers during the three day InnovationLAB include Els Zijlstra, creative director at Materia, the international platform for innovative materials, and Adjiedj Bakas, the acclaimed author and trendwatcher.

Nick Bice, director of boats and maintenance at the Volvo Ocean Race, will give an update on the status of the race and the progress made since last year’s pesentation on the trend for suppliers to partner and collaborate.

The IMO Polar Code and Large Yachts will be examined by James Roy, yacht design director at BMT Nigel Gee Ltd, while Carlo Ighina, R&D manager at the Azimut Benetti Group, will explain how the yachting experience can be enhanced by advanced research and technology.

ICOMIA

When METSTRADE closes on Thursday 17 November, the second and third days of the ICOMIA World Marinas Conference focus on the future of marinas in a changing world. On Saturday the conference concludes with a tour of the best marinas in the Netherlands.

METSTRADE Online Community

After the show, the METSTRADE Online Community, launched in the summer, allows members of the leisure marine sector to nework and keep up to date on developments and innovations year round.
