Andrea Pezzini of Floating Life, a Swiss management, charter and boat development company operating in the yachting sector, has announced the opening of a division in the company dedicated to young designers to welcome their ideas and introduce them to the nautical world.
“We are now in a market that has become static, where the same value is not given to those that are research and the development of innovation and ingenuity; and to innovate a rigorous and traditional sector, such as the nautical one, we need brilliant minds typical of young people, who are able to imagine what does not yet exist,” he explained.
“We are already in contact with some Italian universities, which have in their educational courses of study and master both naval engineering and yacht design, to explain our new project to future designers and engineers, who will take over the different areas of this sector. It is aimed at facing the future of boating with an original approach, connecting our expertise with the new proposals that young people will bring.”
To start this new division in the best possible way, Floating Life has therefore decided to launch a contest for young students which consists in drawing a boat that has an innovative charge both in terms of solutions and lines. The winner will see his or her project realised through a scale model, which will be exhibited during the Monaco Yacht Show 2020, at the company stand.
'Think INNOVATIVE' Project
The aim of the contest is to find original ideas that can improve one or more parts or stages of development of the yacht, both from a technical design point of view and from that of design and development. The Floating Life Team will analyse all the proposals to select the most interesting ones and the most innovative will be selected by our team to develop and engineer it.
The project must follow these guidelines:
• Outdoors: Development of the hull in its shapes and in its hydrodynamics. Innovation of the boat design, both for the superstructure and the upper works.
• Interiors: Diversifying the use of interior spaces and developing furnishings with unconventional materials and shapes.
Those wishing to apply should send the material to firstname.lastname@example.org; the deadline to apply is January 4th 2020, with the winner announced on April 30th.
