EMC Signs Agreement with Global VSAT Forum

EMC has signed a site license agreement with the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) that will provide the company’s technical personnel access to the full suite of the industry’s leading VSAT (very small aperture terminal) satellite communications training material.

Under the agreement, EMC will pursue the GVF Accredited Organization for Training (AO/T) status, which the VSAT industry recognizes as a standard of excellence. The EMC Operations and Engineering Team will train its field engineers and Network Operations Center technicians globally through the GVF learning system, developed and administered by SatProf.

The EMC program will differ from others because the company plans to augment the standard GVF training curriculum with its own exclusive training content. Employees will be able to access it through the GVF learning system. EMC maintains its own on-staff, GVF-qualified examiners, enabling staff to complete their GVF Hands-On Skills Test (HOST).

EMC will continue to offer its customers hands-on training at its training centers in its Miramar, Fla. Headquarters and at its Raisting, Germany Teleport.

“The training license agreement with GVF will help us sustain the highest levels of technical competence for our service and support offices,” said Chris Rivera, chief operations officer (COO), EMC. “This is critical in the value only we can deliver our customers while making them EMC Connected. This initiative augments our ability to distinguish our truly global services for mobility and fixed applications, our differentiated products and technologies, and our unmatched worldwide customer support. We have 52 field support centers staffed by EMC engineers located in strategic locations around the world, providing local technical services where our customers operate. We are committed to maintaining a global field service network of highly trained professionals second-to-none in the industry.”

“We are excited about EMC participating in this industry-leading program,” said David Hartshorn, secretary general, GVF. “EMC is the largest consumer of satellite capacity outside the U.S. and Europe. This is an excellent avenue for the company to deliver the most optimized, efficient connectivity solutions to its customer base of some of the leading private and public sectors in the world.”
