• Warsash Student Receives John William Slater Award & Lands Job on M/Y Ulysses

    A former student of Warsash Superyacht Academy, deckhand, Alex Boulton, has received The John William Slater Award for outstanding achievement in Officer of the Watch Unlimited studies 2016 and is now working as second officer on board 107m motor yacht Ulysses.

    On Saturday 29 October, 40 volunteers of all nationalities and ages gathered in Golfe Juan for a beach cleanup organized by Mission Ocean. We collected a massive 35kg of glass bottles, 18kg of other recyclables, a fishing rod, a ‘for sale’ sign, two broken chairs, a hypodermic needle and tons of cigarette butts and bottle caps, all incredibly dangerous for beach-goers as well as the environment.

    Asia Pacific Superyachts New Zealand kicked off the summer season with a new refit and cruising office in Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour. As the South Pacific summer kicks off, yachts start to arrive in Auckland, and Asia Pacific Superyachts New Zealand (APS NZ) threw their first “Dock Party” at Silo Marina to mark the occasion.

    On 20th October at the Yacht Club Marina di Loano, the Italian Yacht Masters (IYM) held their 4th annual meeting with over 220 captains, sponsors and industry professionals in attendance. As well as celebrating the many successes of the association, several presentations looked at the barriers faced by Italian captains in terms of career progression and what needs to change in order to develop a greater presence on the world stage.
  • RNLI Appoints SC Innovation to Design New Shannon Lifeboat Launch & Recovery System

    SC Innovation has been selected to design the first new variant of the Shannon Launch & Recovery System since it entered service three years ago for the RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat. The SL&RS was designed and developed by SC Innovation and the RNLI’s Engineering Project Team to launch the Shannon independently of slipways and harbours.
