    On the morning of April 6th, an Indonesian Navy ship intercepted the F/V STS-50, a stateless toothfish poaching vessel that escaped custody from Maputo Bay, Mozambique on March 17th. The arrest marks the end of an incredible three-week-long trans-Indian Ocean chase, where the coordinated efforts of Interpol’s Project Scale, Fish-i Africa, the Fusion Centers in Madagascar and Singapore, Sea Shepherd, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Republic of Indonesia finally brought this notorious poacher to justice.

  • Alternative Route to OOW (Yachts under 3,000GT)

    Since the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore certificate of competency (CoC) is a command certificate for small craft, the RYA insists that at least half the qualifying 2,500 nautical miles have been acquired on a small vessel under 24m and 200GT. However, as tis makes it difficult for deckhands to progress to an OOW (Yachts under 3000GT) if all their sea time was acquired on large yachts, the MCA has created an alternative route.

    On Saturday 29 October, 40 volunteers of all nationalities and ages gathered in Golfe Juan for a beach cleanup organized by Mission Ocean. We collected a massive 35kg of glass bottles, 18kg of other recyclables, a fishing rod, a ‘for sale’ sign, two broken chairs, a hypodermic needle and tons of cigarette butts and bottle caps, all incredibly dangerous for beach-goers as well as the environment.
