MYS 2017 - One of the Best

MYS night 2 2

From the 27th to the 30th of September, Port Hercules in Monaco once again played host to the world's most renownend superyacht event. The 27th edition of the MYS certainly did not disappoint, with 125 exceptional superyachts on display as well as 580 industry exhibitors.

The show reflected the current upswing of the yachting market, with larger and newer yachts on show than ever before. There was a noted presence of American and Russian clients, and yachts and exhibitors were booked immediately from Wednesday, going forward into a successful and busy weekend. Post show, brokers and shipyards confirmed that high expectations of this year's event had been met and that the show had brought serious clients to the table.

Attendance this year was up by 8 percent according to the show's organisers, with over 36,000 visitors. Of the 125 yachts on display, standouts included the new 111 meter Amels project, MY Pollux, as well as Oceanco's 110 meter, MY Jubilee, which won both the MYS Exterior Design Award and the MYS Finest Superyacht Award 2017.

Another popular project on display was the submarine known as Project Neptune. This was Aston Martin Consulting's first ever appearance at the MYS and was in collaboration with Florida based Triton Submarines. Only a few will be built and the price tag is said to reach 4 million.

Quai Antoine 1er hosted the Tenders & Toys exhibition, a new addition to the show dedicated to the trendiest luxury tenders and water toys on the market. Sales outpreformed expections and the exhibitors have already requested a larger space for 2018. With the new wave of younger clients buying and chartering yachts, the success of this sector is unsurprising and a focus on super gadgets is a natural step for the show.

The Car Deck was also on display for the second year running, with 16 exclusive cars on show, such as the new Continental GT by Bentley and Shelby's iconic Cobra. Aston Martin, Lamborghini, McLaren and Mercedes-Benz were present as well, with many offering a test drive option to MYS guests. All agree that the Car Deck exhibition is a natural convergence between yachting and the luxury car manufacturers, which often share a discerning clientele.

The Monaco Yacht Summit took place on the eve of the show, welcoming over 50 potential new clients. This special event, which debuted in 2016, is intended to inform those new to the market about what to keep in mind when chartering or purchasing a luxury yacht for the first time.

The presence of these future clients in Port Hercules is certainly thanks to the work of PR manager, Gaëlle Tallarida and her team: “The Monaco Yacht Show has become a brand with a strong identity, clearly defined since the first edition in 1991. The MYS is unique in being the only “hybrid” show in the world exclusively dedicated to the universe of superyachting.

"We are proud to host both the B2B community and today’s and tomorrow’s superyacht purchasers. They make a perfect fit. A new yacht order generates important business activity for all sectors in the yachting industry. Owners are more and more involved in the building of their yachts. At the MYS, future buyers also meet the nautical suppliers to discover the latest interior designs, cutting-edge equipments or brand-new gadgets. And they love it!”
