MUSTO is proud to announce a new partnership with Team Alvimedica, a crew of young, agile and courageous sailors embarking on their first-ever Volvo Ocean Race around the world.
The Volvo Ocean Race, with stopovers in 11 cities in 11 countries covering a total of 38,739 nautical miles, is acclaimed as the world's toughest ocean race, testing the skill, dedication and endurance of competitors to the maximum. MUSTO has stepped in to ensure the team is kept in peak performance as they take on one of their toughest ever challenges.
Ocean racing is integral to MUSTO as a brand, who last year announced their position as official supplier of sailing apparel and footwear for the next two editions of the Volvo Ocean Race. MUSTO's association with the historic race stretches back to 1981/82 when they partnered winning boat Flyer II and they have continued to be involved as a supplier in all subsequent editions.
The design and development of MUSTO's ocean racing gear incorporates rigorous testing by Volvo Ocean Race teams in order to trial the garments to provide innovative and practical solutions to sailors battling the very worst of the elements. The 2014 sailing range is testimony to this, with photoluminescent reflectors added to all offshore garments as a direct result of feedback from sailors competing in the 2011/12 race.
This significant experience and expertise places MUSTO in a unique position to offer Team Alvimedica the highest level of protection in order to help them perform to the best of their ability.
Skipper Charlie Enright commented on the partnership, saying: "We’ve been working with former race winners, Paul Cayard and Stu Bannatyne, to ensure we’re race ready in October. When it came to deciding whose kit we would be wearing, we looked for a brand that also had incomparable Race knowledge and expertise – the only real choice was MUSTO.”
Nigel Musto commented: “MUSTO has supplied kit to Volvo Ocean Race competitors for 33 years. It’s been a pleasure to pass my experience and knowledge gained from working with many of the Race’s legends to Charlie, Mark and the rest of the team. Pulling together your own Volvo Ocean Race Team at under-30 is impressive stuff, we’re keenly watching their growth and are proud to be a chapter of their success story.”
