The Charter Market and Covid-19

Following on from how the global coronavirus pandemic is currently affecting the superyacht industry as a whole, SuperYacht Times third webinar covered its specific effect on the charter market, with an exert panel sharing insights while shedding some light on the outcome of the thousands of charter contracts signed, or due to be signed, this year.

Edmiston CEO Jamie Edmiston was joined by charter broker for Camper & Nicholsons Barbara Dawson, solicitor at HFW Jessica Taylor and TWW’s charter manager James Graham-Cloete, with all reporting declining charter inquiries since the virus hit.

Discussing the future of the market, instincts were that we’re going to see restrictions in place across the globe for months to come and the fact that while every contract is fact or case-specific, the current COVID-19 crisis should always supersede the force majeure provision.
