VanDutch 40 Cannes thumb

Cannes is one of the most popular French Riviera yacht charter destinations and global media will have their eyes on the town during next month's Cannes Film Festival which takes place from 17 - 28 May. Whether you have booked a corporate yacht charter to entertain industry clients, or a day boat rental, 212 Yachts has seven great ideas for things to see and do during a Cannes Film Festival yacht charter. Enjoy!

Champagne & Cocktails at Sunset

Naturally there will be high-profile cocktail parties and yacht soirées during Cannes Film Festival. But if you find yourself ashore without an invite, there are some great places to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy some champagne or an expertly mixed cocktail: The Carlton terrace bar at the Intercontinental Carlton Cannes, The panoramic terrace Lounge at the Radisson Blu 1835 Hotel & Thalasso, or Gotha Club's outdoor terrace at Palm Beach to the east of La Croisette.

Wander Through Le Suquet

Le Suquet is the Old Town area of Cannes and just a five minute walk from Vieux Port and the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals. There are some wonderful views across Cannes from the church square at the summit and great restaurants including Le Relais des Semailles and Table 22, previously known as Mantel.

Take out the Yacht's Water Toys

The weather in May can be very warm and the climate alludes to long sunny days, so it's ideal for testing your yacht's water toys. Cannes is a great base for day trips around the French Riviera with numerous secluded bays perfect for jet skiing, wakeboarding, paddle boarding, flyboarding or simply floating on inflatables. We recommend snorkeling at the Lérins Islands and sea kayaking in the calanques of the Ésterels.

Dining in Cannes and Nearby

French restaurants ranges from traditional bistro style to Michelin-starred cuisine. During Cannes Film Festival, yacht charter guests who opt for a meal ashore will need to book a table far in advance. For a special gastronomic experience head to La Palme d'Or at the Martinez or L'Oasis in nearby Mandelieu-la-Napoule. Tetou, east of Cannes in Golfe Juan is a celebrity favourite for seafood. Don't overlook Antibes which is hosting a full programme of entertainment at Port Vauban during the Film Festival this year; notable restaurants include Le Figuier de Saint-Esprit behind the ramparts and Bacon on the Cap d'Antibes.

Go Shopping on the Croisette

The palm tree-lined Croisette runs the waterfront section between Vieux Port and Port Pierre Canto and is home to boutiques from all the major luxury designers. You'll have plenty of opportunities to browse for haute couture, footwear, leather goods and accessories - look for Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chanel, Balenciaga, Dior and Festival stalwart, Chopard.

Cruise to the Tranquil Lérins Islands

Just across the bay from Cannes, private yachts anchor off two of the most visited Lerins isles, the monastic Île Saint Honorat and eucalyptus-wooded Île Sainte Marguerite. Take a tender into the rocky coves for swimming, walk along the island paths under pine trees or drop into the wine tasting sessions run by the monks on Île Saint Honorat.

Tee off on the Côte d'Azur

Cannes is located within half an hour of some of the French Riviera's best golf courses. If you fancy a round of golf, polish your clubs for a trip to Riviera Golf de Barbossi, Golf de la Grande Bastide, Golf Saint Donat or Golf Old Course which is the nearest golf course to Cannes and close to Cannes-Mandelieu Airport.
