Warsash Superyacht Academy Launches Mobile Learning App

Warsash2

Warsash Superyacht Academy (WSA) announces the launch of its brand new mobile learning platform dedicated to supporting the training of superyacht crew.

The Academy, part of Southampton Solent University, is the first superyacht training provider to develop a learning app for its students to access updated course materials, news, career progression information and a wide range of training FAQs via iPads.

The app will be available to download free from the Apple iTunes Store. Students enrolled on WSA commercial yacht and engineering courses will have the added benefit of accessing their course materials via a user name and password.

With its commitment to improvement of the student experience and having listened to student feedback, WSA has now created this enriched learning app. The app enables students with access to iPads to download the course materials remotely, and as WSA course lecturers are able to continuously upload the latest information, their students are consistently provided with up-to-date learning materials.

Students undergoing officer of the watch, master or chief engineer courses have to undertake revision preparation before commencing their course. This currently involves WSA posting courses material to students. However, receiving the printed courses material can often be challenging, especially when superyacht crews are moving around various ports or locations, as part of their role.

“With its modern look and feel and ease of use,” said Lars Lippuner, Business Development Manager at Warsash Superyacht Academy, “our students will benefit greatly from the app. The ability for students to constantly receive updated material is invaluable and it removes the need for them to carry course material with them whilst they are travelling and working globally.”

Warsash 2WSA appointed CM Group’s Luminosity Motion Learning platform to build the app and deliver content. As an organisation that is committed to providing pioneering solutions and a student learning experience, it was appropriate that the association provided an app that enables WSA to continue to lead in a fast changing and competitive environment.

“For almost 70 years Warsash Maritime Academy has been a world class provider of maritime education, innovation, research and development. Being the first major superyacht academy to deliver training to students via an app will continue to enhance our reputation as a world leader,” continued Lippuner.

WSA’s announcement comes prior to its attendance at Monaco Yacht Show starting on Wednesday 25 until 28 September 2013, where its learning app will be available to download to be demonstrated to visitors and the exhibiting superyacht crews.

The Warsash app will be available through the Apple App Store from Wednesday 25 September and future developments include an android version for non-Apple tablets.
