Countdown to Marina High Tech: Eco Innovation in Yachting

marinahightech 140

Marina High Tech is a new event positioning itself as the first international yacht show to focus on sustainable development, protection of the marine environment and the technological innovations geared towards these advancements. Taking place on 24 and 25 May in the iconic Marina Baie-des-Anges, Villeneuve-Loubet, the show will be of interest to all industry professionals.

As an industry we have a stake in taking yachting in a more environmentally conscious direction and mounting interest is already evident across the sector kindled by the efforts of organisations and media to highlight the issues. Marina High Tech sets out to show that a reduction in our environmental impact is possible with innovative high-tech solutions and a sustainable approach.

The giant catamaran is intended to devour plastic pollution and clean up the oceans, whilst doubling as a platform for scientific research and educational outreach. The four-hulled quadrimaran, powered by hybrid renewable energy sources, captured the public's imagination from its conception and has been in development thanks to crowdfunding to the tune of 150 000 euros.

Having successfully completed feasibility studies, the design has been finalised and the vessel's delivery is envisaged for 2021. The Manta will be able to collect up to 250 tons of plastic waste, sort it and store it before delivering it to land. A 1/80th scale model will be displayed at Marina High Tech alongside other elements of the technology that will make this revolutionary project possible.

In addition to the large range of exhibitors, an in-water display will feature high tech boats and nautical equipment in line with the show’s environmental theme. The SeaZen boat (below) is one of these, a silent solar-powered leisure boat that attendees can test in the waters around Marina Baie-des-Anges.

Seminars will cover topics including the Green Marina; the Connected Marina : the stakes, cyber security and solutions ; the Marina of the Future and more.
