Palma Superyacht Show 2015: A Show of Strength

The Palma Superyacht Show, conducted in partnership with MYBA The Worldwide Yachting Association, has firmly established itself as the season opener in the Mediterranean. It showcases the finest selection of yachts, for sale and charter, in one of the finest destinations in the world. So, it comes as no surprise that the third consecutive Show, held from the 30th of April to the 4th of May, has proven to be the best to date with the numbers speaking for themselves.

62 participating yachts, 42 exhibitors and 6.000 exclusive visitors graced the area of the Show.  The yachts on display included the impressive Mondango, a 51.8m sailing yacht built by Alloy Yachts, the elegant Eleonora, an exact replica of the schooner Westward, the high performance Metoulius, a Royal Huisman sailing yacht, and the inspiring Mastiff, a deep sea tug built in 1967 and converted into a luxury superyacht in 2010.  The quality of the yachts on display was excellent and apart from the high percentage of enquiries that were noted, offers were made on more than one occasion and there is anticipation for strong business results.

90% of the exhibitors present during this year’s Show have expressed their wish to return next year and many have requested the same stand. There is also increased interest from new exhibitors and a waiting list has already been drawn up! Patricia Bullock of Network Marine Consultants commented “We are delighted with the results of this year’s PSS. This is the second year we have exhibited and we will continue next year. The organisation and installations were exceptional and it was so good to see and feel the great atmosphere created. There were many more professional visitors from outside Spain and every one of them was extremely impressed by the quality of the Show and Palma itself. PSS has done a lot of good for the industry in Spain and also for Palma as a destination.”

According to Arne Ploch of Camper and Nicholsons “Having participated in the Palma Superyacht Show from the very beginning, we can say that there was a significant increase in potential clients this year, in real buyers visiting the show from all over the world.  We brought 8 yachts to the show         (5 motor and 3 sailing yachts) and received serious enquiries for several of them, with two offers directly from the show which might eventually lead to a sale.  The Palma Superyacht Show is now established and in its third year, with a good number of yachts and a balanced ratio between sailing and motor yachts. It offers every potential buyer a good selection in every segment of the market, be it sail or motor.”

However, numbers alone do not make an exceptional Show. A decisive factor contributing to the success of the Palma Superyacht Show is its unique ambience and friendly atmosphere. Captains, crew, exhibitors and visitors enjoyed the Happy Hour, Cocktail Hour and gastronomic experiences at the “Blue Café by Marc Fosh”. The Cowboys & Indians themed party developed into one of the highlights of the event and networking was on the daily agenda. Joost Goverts of Northrop & Johnson Spain stated “New contacts were made and old relationships were cemented. It was an outstanding opportunity to do business in a relaxed atmosphere and I am positive that the spin off effect of this show will be noticeable. I believe that next year the Palma Superyacht Show will be even better because the mechanics have been tried and tested and this will allow us to place even more emphasis on details, as there is always room for improvement.”

Elisa Arcal of Bluewater Yachting sums it up by saying «Great venue, great attendance. Bigger and better than last year, can't wait for next year!”
